Zero Point Energy is not the only source of decentralized, clean, low-cost energy. Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR) is the renamed and revived technology once called Cold Fusion.

Actually, characterizing cold fusion as being revived is not quite accurate. Despite having been virtually erased from public awareness by opposition, it never really went away.

According to Wikipedia's time line, "On March 23, 1989, two Utah electrochemists, Stanley Pons (August 23, 1943 - ) and Martin Fleischmann (March 29, 1927 – August 3, 2012), announced that they had achieved cold fusion."

There are hints in all of this that the ancient wish for a way to transform elements into other elements may be possible.
